Taking the essential unity of mind and body as its starting point, Mindfulness-Based Therapeutic Massage (MBTM) combines the principles and techniques of mindfulness meditation with traditional massage therapy in a deliberate, intentional way.

About Mindfulness-Based Therapeutic Massage

“Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally. It’s about knowing what is on your mind.”

— Jon Kabat-Zinn

Grounded in both ancient practice and modern science, MBTM is surprisingly powerful. By foregrounding mindfulness to a greater degree than is often usual, MBTM yields a wide range of benefits in a relatively short amount of time.

By integrating guided breathing and other mindfulness techniques into our session, I help you to become more aware of and equanimous with the various mental and physical sensations you experience, thereby deepening your state of relaxation and enhancing the effectiveness of the massage.

At the same time, consciously integrating mindfulness techniques into our session makes me a better therapist by enabling me to be fully open, present, and centered — helping me to be more attentive and responsive to your needs and the signals your body is sending.

If you’re interested in exploring the intersection of mindfulness and massage in more depth, I recommend booking a 90- or 120-minute session to get a better sense of what this work has to offer.
